Now it is official: DIS 29500, more commonly known as OOXML, has been approved as an International Standard by ISO.

What could  have possibly made those national bodies that before had voted “no” or “abstain” to change their minds it is hard to understand. Not surely the dispositions of comments, which casted more shadows than lights; not quite a BRM (Ballot Resolution Meeting) where just a few dozens of issues were really discussed, while those open were literally thousands. Maybe in the name of the dominant player, everybody must bow to its diktats (once more)?

ISO must rethink very carefully its role, we are very, very far from the right way. This standard should not have made a fast track, now it has been shoved through.

Starting from today is “international standard” not capitalized anymore?
