Biography (in very short)

ImageCarlo Piana, born in Omegna (Italy) on the 25th day of September, 1968. It was a wednesday, but my memories are weak. Son of Andreino and Maria Rosa Morengo, has a brother, Stefano.

Grown up in Mergozzo , on the border of the lake bearing the same name, more recently -- pity on him -- moved slightly away, although he works in Milan. Not without pain and effort (for and by his teachers) he gets his high school grades on 1987, then has the weird idea of seeking a Law degree, that he reaches with fullest marks in 1992.

After spending one solid year serving the nation under the Army (Alpini), including a service as a blue helmet for the UN (with medal and cross), decides:

  • to meet his wife (1992)
  • to become a lawyer (1993)

Marries with Paola on 1997. As early as 2000 Livia is born.

During 2000 starts using GNU/Linux and becomes a fervish supporter of Free Software. Just a few months earlier he had left, slamming the door, an "international" law firm. Establishes with a boutique law firm of two partners, with a general practice in Administrative and Civil Law. On 2004 he becomes counsel of the Free Software Foundation Europe. Which gave him, more than wealth, some gratitude and media exposure.

During 2008, another U-turn, sets up his own superniche firm, where he almost exclusively deals with IT Law, domain names protection, Open Source (which he keeps calling Free Software) and other weird things.

Meanwhile he has some academic involvement as lecturer at the Civil Law department of the Statale University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), and teaches radomly also elsewhere upon invitation.
